PUNJAB TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY WINS THE e-INDIA 2010 AWARDS

 

No. 1 ICT Enabled University of the Year
No. 1 Open and Distance Learning Initiative of the Year
eINDIA 2010 Awards organized in association with Department of Information Technology (DIT) under the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India, were held at Hyderabad International Conventional Centre, Hyderabad on 5th August 2010. These awards acknowledge and felicitate unique and innovative initiatives in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for development in diverse domains namely, e-Governance, Digital Learning, e-Health, e-Agriculture, Municipal IT & Tele Centre through a two way process of jury evaluation and of public voting. 
 
Out of 448 nominations received by e-India, 26 were put up online for the public to vote, with the entry receiving the maximum number of votes being declared the winner under the eINDIA Citizen Choice Award. The jury process entails that a group of experts screen through the nominations and choose the best project based on certain established guidelines and evaluation criterion and the winner is awarded  the eINDIA Jury Choice Award.
 
Three projects were submitted from Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, Distance Education, under the domain - Digital Learning. The EBRIDGE and the LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (LMS) & COMPUTER BASED TUTORIAL (CBT) projects were nominated as one of the best in top three nominations selected by the jury.
 
In the Citizen’s Choice award (through Voting), PTU was awarded the Best ICT enabled University of the Year (LMS & CBT) & also as the Best Open & Distance Learning initiative of the year.
 
On behalf of the Punjab Technical University Dr. Rajneesh Arora (Vice Chancellor), Dr. N. P. Singh (Dean – Distance Education Programme), Shri H.S. Bains, (Registrar), Sri D.S. Sekhon (President, AIPTUDEP Associates) & Sri J. S. Dhaliwal (President, PUTIA) received these awards from Ms. Agatha Sangma, Honorable Minister of State for Rural Development & Agriculture, Govt. of India.
 
On this Occasion Ms. Agatha Sangma congratulated the PTU team for the initiatives and lauded its efforts in enabling to spread the reach of quality and affordable education across the country in not just urban areas but also to remote destinations that were lacking in opportunities for higher education with the help of ICT tools.
 
Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Vice Chancellor, PTU thanked the eIndia team, jury and all the people who participated in the voting process and made this award possible for PTU. He informed the gathering that the PTU team is committed to bring in more such innovations and explained his vision for PTU as the most progressive University in India, internationally recognized for the relevance, innovation and responsiveness of teaching and learning, research, partnerships and international activities.
 
Dr. N. P. Singh, Dean DEP, PTU emphasized on the need for building a ‘Knowledge Society’ for the nation. He explained that in today’s competitive environment, continuously upgrading oneself and acquiring new skills to enhance ones capabilities are imperative to thrive and PTU strives to provide a supportive, amicable and responsive environment for its team to achieve overall excellence in education. 
 

Er. H.S. Bains, Registrar of PTU, added that PTU is endeavouring to bring in more innovations in this programme so that the quality of teaching & learning can be improved through innovative use of ICT & that PTU will continue to strive to provide the students with resources & tools necessary to help them improve their quality of life.
