Punjab Technical University – Distance Education Programme Students (PTU-DEP) enters University of Ballarat, at ATMC Australia.
Punjab Technical University, Distance Education Programme formally launched its association with ATMC (Australia Technical & Management College) of University of Ballarat, Melbourne, Australia on 10th March 2012 at Hotel Park Plaza, Ludhiana. With this association students of PTU DEP can get lateral entry admission in the programmes offered in IT, Computer Science & Management streams.
Dr. R.P.S. Bedi, Joint Registrar, Student Support, PTU said that the main aim of this association is to open doors of global opportunities for the students of PTU DEP. Students can get lateral entry admission in the various programmes offered in IT and Management streams and save their valuable time & money. He further emphasized on the need for building a ‘Knowledge Society’ for the nation. He explained that in today’s competitive environment, continuously upgrading oneself and acquiring new skills to enhance one’s capabilities are imperative to thrive and PTU strives to provide a supportive, amicable and responsive environment for its team to achieve overall excellence in education.
Dr. John Harvey, Chairman ATMC and Executive Director IBM, Australia & Newzealand said “The University (UB) had its beginning in 1870, making it the third oldest tertiary institution in Australia. Since then it has forged close links with the region, as well as national and international partners. Up to 25,000 students now studying at UB are able to choose from a growing list of Higher Education and TAFE courses. Dr. Manish Malhotra, Managing Director & CEO ATMC and Mr. Kulvinder S. Chhatwal, Director, Academic Relationships ATMC & CEO, ARPL, congratulated all participants and also welcomed PTU Distance Education Programme through the All India PTU DEP Association, for taking the initiative of providing this opportunity to its students. ATMC (Australian Technical and Management College) enables students from around the world to obtain a valued qualification from the University of Ballarat. The process of assessments are covered under ARPL (Australian Recognition of Prior learning) whose mappings and approvals were initiated under the expert guidance & experiences of S. Kulvinder S. Chhatwal, 3 years back and are now ready to benefit a huge number of students the in state of Punjab.
This event was attended by all the Regional Centres across India and more than 80 Learning Centres from various districts of Punjab. Speaking to the members from the press Er. D. S. Sekhon, President, All India PTU DEP Association, said that we are very pleased to have signed the MOU with ATMC of University of Ballarat as this would help our students to acquire lateral entry admission in various courses in IT & Management. He further said that with high quality training the students will be ready for global employability.

Punjab Technical University (PTU) was set up by the Government of Punjab in 1997 through a State Legislative Act. PTU started with a modest beginning in 1997, with only nine Engineering and thirteen Management colleges affiliated to it. PTU now has more than 400 affiliated colleges. During a short span of 10 years in Distance Education, the University has undertaken many innovative programmes.
