Punjab Technical University, Directorate of Distance Education signed MOU with Indian Institute of Material Management (IIMM) as Academic Partner. With this arrangement University has outsourced the services of Subject Matter Experts to bridge the skill gap between industry and academia. This will help the students to gain live exposure to specialized products. Indian Institute of Material Management is an apex body in India in this subject and has a vast connectivity to the related corporates and industry. Students who pursue education through distance mode require practical exposure and hands on experience which can only be obtained from the Industry. IIMM has a pool of resource persons and subject matter experts who will also be now available to PTU Distance Education. They will interact with the industry and propose desired syllabus and curriculum which will be evaluated by the University experts. These professionals from the industry will also prepare the Learning Material in SIM format, Computer Based Tutorials and Video Lectures that will be available to the students through the PTU online Learning Management System.
This is a unique tie-up in which the academia will be integrated to the industry through an Academic Partner. The Academic Partner will coordinate with the Regional Centres to map the territory, evaluate the need, formulate the counseling strategies and market the product. The students under this arrangement would have an opportunity to visit the related industry and watch the live processes. The expert from the industry and working professionals will be available to the Learning Centres for Guest Lectures and to Train the Trainers. The professionals in Material Management are in great demand because with the robust economy and the growing retail and logistic sectors we need experts for logistic management, supply chain management, retail management, material management and production. The opportunities in this industry are as a Purchase Manager, Store Manager, Capacity Planner, Supply Supervisor, Commodity Buyer, Distribution Manager, Import / Export Manager, Materials Control Manager, Merchandise Planner, Plant Operation Manager etc. The major industry that required such professionals includes courier, cargo, manufacturing industry, import and export, shipping, retail, printing & publishing etc.
